Vanessa Jennings's Story

My name is Vanessa. I am a client of the Florida Women's Business Center in Delray Beach, which helped me develop my business roadmap. I started Vaz events in 2009 with a partner. I was hosting smaller events at the time, and my partner had attended one and mentioned to me, “You know this could be big.” I replied, “Let’s do it!”.

The first event was in September 2009 in Hartford, CT. From there, we started doing two events a year and eventually added a third for little girls aged 0-12yrs and a fourth for girls 18+ hosted on college campuses. The plan was always to expand Vaz to other states, but my partner moved out of state due to her husband’s career, so I continued with Vaz with a strong staff in Hartford.

I moved to Miami in 2016 and always planned on starting the events down here. Last year, I was so excited to do the first event, Vaz Welcome to Miami but due to Covid, it was canceled.

I look forward to starting planning again for Vaz for Spring 2022.

Business Description

Vaz Media are events geared towards women 21+ for a night of feminine, fabulous, fun, filled with shopping, socializing, business networking, and entertainment while raising money for a charity. They shop from vendors, mostly women-owned, or learn about new products geared towards women. It’s a night of grassroots marketing for small businesses and larger companies. Some past sponsors included SMIRNOFF, ALEX & ANI & MACY’S. Men also attend but it is mostly geared toward women. A children’s event with the same concept was also part of Vaz events in the past.

What is the purpose of this loan?

The loan would help us to launch our services in Miami, by hosting the first event. It would cover costs to execute that first event in a manner that has proven to be extremely successful in the past when we ran this company in Hartford, CT from 2009-2015. We have a proven recipe for success. The Kiva loan will help us to get off to a good start in Miami.
